Who is The Warwick Community Van?
The Warwick Community Van (WCV) is the name given to a group of volunteers based in Warwick who are “feeding people with love”. This group of volunteers is a mix of church members from the Warwick Seventh-day Adventist church and people from the larger Warwick community. Our journey together to form the Warwick Community Van began mid 2018 moving forward to this day where we are now running a successful soup/community kitchen each weekend in Leslie Park to “Feed people with love”.
What is our mission?
Our mission as the WCV is to feed people with love! It is a simple concept that involves approaching everyone who accesses our services with acceptance, compassion and love. We aim to understand the beliefs and life story behind those whom we are here to serve. The WCV is focused on people and how we can improve their lives by meeting their physical needs or by providing the more complex humans needs, of acceptance and love. Our mission is to connect with all those who seek to use our services, whether as a once-off or on a weekly basis. We seek volunteers who share our common mission; to “feed people with love”.
How can you help?
The WCV van is run by volunteers and as such, we need your help to keep us functional. The Warwick Community Van holds Christian principles in high regard and is run as a professional service to our community. We seek volunteers who are agreeable with our values, who are happy to cook, clean and serve each week while maintaining our core values.
Our core values are:
- Compassion
- Teamwork
- Honesty
- Respect
- Community
- Love
- Understanding
The essence of our work comes from a bible text in Mark, where Jesus feeds 5000 people with only 5 loaves and 2 fish. When it came time to feed the crowd, God multiplied the food they had, to make it enough to fed everyone. Jesus’ command was “…You give them something to eat.” Matthew 14:16
